2. Treat every firearm as if it was loaded.
It might be loaded, even if you think it isn’t. In addition to treating your firearm as if it were loaded, CHECK to see if it is every time that you touch it so that you know the exact status of your firearm.
3. Be sure of the target and what is in front of it and beyond it.
Make sure you have an adequate backstop—don’t shoot at a flat, hard surface or water.
4. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
This is the best way to prevent an accidental discharge.
